Valued at a market cap of $13 billion, Amcor plc (AMCR) is a global packaging company headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. It develops, produces, and sells both flexible and rigid packaging solutions, serving diverse sectors including food, beverage, healthcare, medical devices, home and personal care, pet care, and various industrial markets.

Companies valued at $10 billion or more are typically classified as “large-cap stocks,” and Amcor fits the label perfectly, with its market cap exceeding this threshold, underscoring its size, influence, and dominance within the packaging & containers industry. The company's strengths lie in its broad product portfolio, global scale, and strong focus on innovation and sustainability. Its global manufacturing footprint, with over 200 sites across 40+ countries, allows it to serve multinational customers efficiently and reliably. AMCR is also known for its innovation leadership, developing advanced recyclable, lightweight, and high-barrier packaging materials to meet growing consumer demand for sustainable solutions.

This packaging company has dipped 21.9% from its 52-week high of $11.48, reached on Sep. 27, 2024. Shares of Amcor have fallen 7.7% over the past three months, lagging behind the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund’s (XLY) 7.1% return during the same time frame.

Moreover, in the longer term, AMCR has declined 9.2% over the past 52 weeks, considerably underperforming XLY’s 16.4% rise over the same time frame. Nonetheless, on a YTD basis, shares of Amcor are down 4.7%, outpacing XLY’s 6.1% drop.

To confirm its bearish trend, AMCR has been trading below its 200-day moving average since early December, 2024, and has remained below its 50-day moving average since late October, 2024, with slight fluctuations.

Amcor delivered its Q3 results on Apr. 30, and its shares fell 1.3% in the following trading session. Due to weaker consumer demand, primarily in North America, the company’s revenue declined 2.3% year-over-year to $3.3 billion, falling short of the forecasted figure by 4.6%. On the other hand, its adjusted EPS of $0.18 climbed 1.1% from the year-ago quarter and aligned with Wall Street’s forecast. Looking ahead to fiscal 2025, the company narrowed its adjusted EPS guidance in the range of $0.72 to $0.74.
