Tetra Pak has revealed a 25% decrease in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout its value chain since 2019, as outlined in its financial year 2024 (FY24) Sustainability Report.

This represents a five-percentage-point enhancement from the prior year, underscoring the company's dedication to sustainability.

For its internal operations, Tetra Pak has achieved a 54% reduction in GHG emissions since 2019.

It noted that 94% of its energy usage is derived from renewable sources, positioning it to attain net-zero GHG emissions in its operations by 2030.

The report emphasises Tetra Pak's goal to cut GHG emissions across its value chain by 46% by 2030, relative to the 2019 baseline.

This objective aligns with the company's efforts to decarbonise both its and its clients' operations.

It added that the launch of new equipment such as the Tetra Pak Tubular Heat Exchanger has been instrumental in these reductions.

This advancement not only cuts energy expenses but also contributes to a smaller carbon footprint for users.

Additional accomplishments noted in the report include assisting food production facilities in achieving up to a 40% reduction in energy use.

Tetra Pak's advanced manufacturing solutions have also enhanced quality consistency by 60%, thereby mitigating food waste.

The company says it has provided 66 million children in 49 countries with nutritious beverages through its school feeding initiatives.

Furthermore, Tetra Pak has supported 84,000 smallholder dairy farmers across 29 Dairy Hub locations, improving their income stability.

The company has allocated approximately €100m ($114.16m) towards research and development to enhance the environmental profile of its cartons. Innovations include recycled polymer caps and the Tetra Brik Aseptic 200 Slim Leaf solution featuring a paper-based barrier.

The business has also introduced its 'Approach to Nature' framework, which delineates specific actions and measurable targets aimed at halting and reversing environmental degradation.

Lastly, Tetra Pak is enhancing its engagement with workers throughout the value chain via various initiatives, including worker feedback surveys and impact assessments.

The company is collaborating with 150 suppliers through its sustainability initiative: 'Join Us in Protecting the Planet'.
