Stocks Open Lower as Trump Dials Up Tariff Threats
The stock market was set for another day of declines on Thursday after President Donald Trump dialed up global tariffs threats last night.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 230 points, or 0.5%, at the open. The S&P 500 was down 0.3%. The Nasdaq Composite was down 0.2%. The Dow was being dragged down by a 5.6% slide in Boeing stock after an 11-year-old Boeing 787 carrying 242 passengers and crew crashed in India.
Trump told reporters outside the Kennedy Center he planned to send countries letters in two weeks outlining unilateral tariffs they will face. His delay on most global tariffs is set to expire on July 9, though negotiations with some countries could extend individual deadlines.
