Stocks Edge Higher as Powell Speaks

The stock market perked up slightly as Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell began his 2:30 p.m. ET press conference.

The S&P 500 was up 0.5%. The Dow was up 204 points, or 0.5%. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.6%.

“Increases in tariffs this year are likely to push up prices and weigh on economic activity,” Powell said.
