Trump Calls Out ‘Too Late’ Powell for Steady Rate Policy

Just hours before the Federal Reserve is set to release its latest interest-rate decision, President Donald Trump took a swipe at the central bank’s leader for keeping interest rates steady.

The Federal Open Market Committee probably won’t cut rates today, Trump said Wednesday in remarks to reporters about flagpoles he is having installed on the White House lawn.

But Trump indicated keeping rates steady is a mistake. “We're doing well as a country. If the Fed would ever lower rates, we’d buy debt for a lot less,” Trump said, adding that the U.S. could lose “trillions of dollars” because of higher interest rates. “I'd like to see interest rates get down.”
